We have discussed food storage and grocery shopping in prior posts. There are a few other items that have not been covered yet to making your kitchen plastic free.
DISHES
Dish washing detergent
If washing by hand or in the dish washer, you can make your dish cleaning routine plastic free as well.
Use refillable dish soap.
Bring your mason jar or refillable container to Generation Green or Bulk Barn.
Sapadilla’s dish soap smells fantastic and it is safe for the environment (this is the brand of refillable liquid soap Generation Green carries).
Use dish wash detergent that comes in a box or non-plastic container.

DIY dishwasher detergent

1 cup borax
-
1 cup washing soda

½ cup citric acid
-
½ cup kosher salt
Ditch the sponges and plastic brushes.

Switch to cellulose sponges that you can compost.

Make your own dishcloths using natural fiber.

Use a loofah sponge.

Switch to natural brushes, such as bamboo
Skip the dish gloves and use your hands.

PANS
Forget the non-stick pans
Avoid Teflon! Did you know Teflon is associated with “smaller birth weight and size in newborn babies, elevated cholesterol, abnormal thyroid hormone levels, liver inflammation, and weaker immune defense against disease.”(Environmental Working Group). Yikes!
